Department of Mechanical Engineering has been constantly organizing several academic and extracurricular activities for the overall development of students and faculties of the department. The Department regularly organizes and participates in conferences, workshops, seminars and alumni get-together.
A discussion is initiated by Mechanical Department for signing a MoU between MBCET and UniversitiTeknologi Mara, a Malaysian University for Friendship, Cooperation and Promotion of Mutual Understanding, Academic, Cultural and Scientific Thought and Personal Exchange.
ISRO Respond Funded Project for Rs 24.5 Lakhs has been undertaken by Dr. K. Muraleedharan Nair and Mr. BobinSaji George.
CERD Seed Money Project for Rs 2 Lakhs has been undertaken by Dr. K. Muraleedharan Nair.
CEDS two funded students projects completed as on Jan 2018 (Automatic Ryles Tube and Smart water Jacket)

ASME MBCET CHAPTER
The latest addition to the arsenal of organization affiliated with MBCET is the ASME MBCET Students’ Chapter, formed in the month of March, 2017 with the objective of organising events that focuses on Mechanical Engineering. The chapter, headed by Student Section Advisor, Mr.Jagajith S, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Chairman, Mr. Jayesh from S6 Mechanical, has over 100 members.
The Chapter has been working smoothly with full drive and energy. An interview, guided by the Associate Professors of the Department was conducted this year to select the new office bearers of the Chapter. The Annual General Body Meeting was conducted in the college in the month of February to review the activities and functioning of the unit.
The Chapter is yet again proud to represent the college at the international event ASME E-FEST Asia Pacific 2018 in Delh, in the month of March (16th -18th), 2018. Student members, HarikrishnanJayan Menon (S8), Bharath Lal (S8)and Edwin Denis Joseph (S8) represented the college in the Old Guard Competition.
The unit has also organised a Mind Controlled Autobot Workshop, the first of its kind at the college on 24th – 25th March 2018. The workshop will equip the participants with all the knowledge and information required to build a robot which is not just voice controlled but also controlled by the mind!
The ASME MBCET Chapter continues to grow and expand its roots. The chapter is expected to reach heights in the future and looks forward to let its members come out with flying colours.
TALK ON ENERGY MANAGEMENT
On 14th of March 2018, a talk was arranged for S8 Mechanical students on Energy Management and Energy Auditing. Mr. Johnson Daniel, Energy Technologist from Energy Management Centre (Kerala) and certified Energy Auditor Mr. B.V.Suresh Babu, conducted the lecture programme between 11.00 am till 1.00 pm. They have explained various aspects of Energy Management as well as Energy Auditing in industries. The questions asked by the students were appropriately answered by the team. The talk was coordinated by Prof.Venkatesh K. S.
As a faculty initiative, GATE coaching is conducted by the department to final year students who are aspiring for GATE. Classes have started on August 9, 2017 and will end on Jan 28th, 2018, covering all modules of the syllabus. A total of 25 students have enrolled for the coaching.

Talk On Career Guidance-
Sri. B. S. Warrier conducted a class on career guidance and related subjects on 13th February 2017 at the Visvesvaraya Hall from 09.30 AM to 12.30 PM. He enlightened the students with the various job opportunities available after graduation and how to pursue them.
Talk on Naval Architecture and Ship Building: A talk on Naval Architecture and ship building was conducted by Mr. Ajit Abraham, Chief Engineer, Seaspan Shipping Company Ltd, Merchant Navy in October 2016 for fourth year students.
Talk on IC Engines Assembly: Mahindra Tech conducted a training program on IC Engines assembly in November 2016 for the second year students.
Training Talk on QA/QC: A training talk was conducted by SCORE in January 2017 for the third year and fourth year students to introduce the current job vacancies in the area of Quality Control.
Edwise Orientation Talk: An orientation talk was conducted for the fourth year students in January 2017 to motivate the students for their higher studies in foreign university.
Training Talk on NDT: A training talk on NDT was conducted for the fourth year students by INDUSCAN, Nilambur in February 2017. It introduces the recent job positions in the area of NDT.
Software Training Talk on MEP: A software training talk was conducted for the fourth year students by BIM SOFT in February 2017 to introduce the software packages in mechanical electrical plumbing.
ENERGY AUDIT CELL IN THE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Energy Audit is an essential requirement of any progressive organization. The members of the cell were given an exposure by Prof. Dr. George Zachariah about the significance of energy audit in the current social scenario of energy crisis. Hence few members are conducting audit of the Mechanical Engineering Department as their final year project under the guidance of Prof. K. S. Venkatesh.
Cast Iron Recycling Unit
A cast iron recycling cum production unit has been established at the Mechanical Engineering Workshop, MBCET on 21 August 2015 by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The unit aims at recycling the scrap cast iron generated inside the campus. It can stand as a production unit by producing the castings required for the Mechanical Department and can also support student projects with the additional cast iron scrap purchased from outside.
A charity drive by Automata and ISTE MBCET Chapter - The students of Mechanical Engineering department, MBCET did the first charity drive under the AUTOMATA team in association with ISTE MBCET chapter. It tried to support the education fee of three students at St Joseph School, Paruthippara. The staff and students of Mechanical Engineering department contributed to this cause and a representative team visited the school on 7th July 2015 with helping hand.
Introduction to the World of Pipelines
Department has taken initiative to bring alumni’s to provide expert talk to students. A talk on “An introduction to the world of pipelines” was given by Mr. Bechu Jacob Philip, alumni of our college on February 20, 2015.The talk was on importance of piping engineering in industry, especially petroleum sector. He also gave light on the hardships faced by engineers in offshore piping design. The talk was attended by many faculties and second year mechanical students.
Centre-of-Excellence (CoE) in CAE
A talk was given by Mr. Gopikrishnan on CoEDAS“Career-oriented Education in Design And Simulation”. It is a self-learning software suite that could be used by students can use it to acquaint themselves with industrial applications of mechanical engineering principles that they learn in the classrooms.
As a part of MOU signed between Mar Baselios College of Engineering & Technology and Hindustan Latex Limited Ms. Nidhi MB, S Jagajith, Sujith S and Sreejith NK, Assistant Professors, Department of Mechanical Engineering are leading student projects with HLL.
FEAST (Finite Element Analysis of Structures)
Feast is ISRO's structural analysis software based on Finite Element Method (FEM) realized by Structural Engineering Entity of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). The software is developed in C++ Programming Language based on Object Oriented (OO) principles. Substructured and Multi-Threaded (SMT) implementation of the solver ensures high performance of the software to the end users. The software demonstration and explained by Mr. Deepak and Mr. Raj Tilak, VSSC, at the department CAD lab. The aim of demonstration was to help students identify the latest tool in engineering research and to inculcate research enthusiasm in students. The demonstration was attended by M.Tech students, B.Tech students and faculties of the department.
Two-Week STTP ON Fluid Mechanics
A Two Week ISTE Workshop on Fluid Mechanics initiated under the National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, New Delhi, conducted by IIT Kharagpur, was held between May 20th, 2014 to May 30th, 2014. The workshop benefited regular/visiting faculty colleagues who are teaching subjects like Fluid Mechanics, Transport phenomena and Hydraulics at the undergraduate or the postgraduate level. Our College MBCET was a remote centre for the workshop. Around 30 faculties from various engineering colleges in the city participated in the workshop, The workshop comprised of lectures on important topics, Exercises, discussion, Interactive sessions, online Tests and Group Assignment activity. Live lectures were given by IIT faculties, Prof. Sankar Kumar Som, Prof. Suman Chakraborty and Prof. Sandipan Ghosh Moulic. The lecture transmission and live interaction took place through distance mode, using the AVIEW technology and the internet. This initiative is part of the National Mission on Education through ICT, supported by MHRD.
Talk on Banking by Mr. Renjith, Manager South Indian Bank, Nalanchira
A talk was arranged by the department of Mechanical Engineering on 17th Januvary 2015, on banking procedures and practices. Manager South Indian Bank, Nalanchira Trivandrum, Mr Ranjith U R gave the lecture. A total of 120 students from Electronics and communication and civil engineering department were exposed to the subject as Finance Management was one of the subjects which is a part of Humanities. The program was arranged in Visveshwaraiah hall.
CONFLUENCE – Continuance of togetherness
Reunion of mechanical alumni’s named “Confluence” was conducted on 6th September 2014. Around 60 people including our present/old staff and alumni’s took part in the event. Official inauguration was conducted by our respected principal Dr. T. M. George, followed by an open house event where most of our alumni shared their experiences. The event was followed by onamsadhya. The event was compered by Joel Jiji (S7 ME), Hena Maria Joy (S5 EEE) and Yakoob Mohammed (S5 ME).
Two Day Training Programme on Hyperworks
A two day training program on Hyperworks was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering the staff and PG students of Mechanical Engineering. The training was given on 17th & 18th of July 2014 by Altair from 9.30am to 4.00pm. The HyperWorks provides the most comprehensive, open-architecture CAE solution in the industry, including best-in-class modeling, analysis, visualization and data management solutions for linear, nonlinear, structural optimization, fluid-structure interaction, and multi-body dynamics applications.
Industrial Visits and Training
Every year arrangements are made by the Mechanical Engineering Department for the students of fifth/sixth semester to attend Industrial visits and training inside and outside Kerala. These visits give the students an exposure of working environment in various industries and its internal departments. All the students are required to present a detailed report on the industries visited. Some of the main industries visited are:
