STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Departmental Association
The Electronics Association is very active with the full participation of the students of all semesters. Invited lectures by experts drawn from industries and academic field are arranged regularly. The students are also encouraged to present papers on current topics. This has helped the students to improve their communication skills and update their technical knowledge.
IEEE Student branch, MBCET and its activities
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering) founded in 1884, is celebrating 125 years of its existence this year. It is a non profit organization, and the largest technical organization in the world. IEEE serves over 3,50,000 members, who are geographically divided into 10 regions, with more than 300 Sections and 1100 Student Branches worldwide. A Student Branch falls under the auspices of a local Section. IEEE was founded to help its members share information in ways that promote innovation. Members of the Institute engage in technical and professional activities designed to advance the theory and practice of electro-technology.
The Institute strives to be supportive and responsive to Members' needs by seeking to anticipate and manage change in ways that will benefit members and the societies in which they live. Further, the IEEE promotes public understanding and appreciation of the contributions of electrical and electronics engineers.
The Student Branch of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc, USA (IEEE) is functioning under IEEE Kerala Section. The IEEE student branch of MBCET was selected as the Best Student Branch from among 40 engineering colleges in Kerala State for the year 2008 for the innovative programs initiated by the branch.
General Activities of IEEE MBCET
IEEE Awareness
The awareness program is for the freshmen. The event included talks on IEEE, Region 10, and IEEE Kerala Section.
IEEE 4 MBCET
IEEE MBCET conducts series of mock tests for all the students of MBCET for their placements, CAT etc. as a part of IEEE 4 MBCET programme.
Quest-ians
On basis of IEEE code of ethics, engineer should be a synonym for trust and excellence and must have an improved understanding of technology, its application and potential consequences. Keeping it in mind a test on the latest developments in the field of technological advancement is held once in every three months. The topic with required hyperlinks taken from IEEE publication Spectrum and online resources was sent to every IEEE member a week before the test.
DESIGNZ
IEEE MBCET looks forward to enlighten young minds and help to view the outlook of the freshmen. This is done especially in order to help the young minds feel that they are worth all their talent. The two phases are
Phase A: It requires the students to participate. It could be either a Technical Write Up, Power Point Presentation, Animation Skills or Creative Construction of a Physical System.
Phase B: It is more training oriented than competition. The students would be directed to their fields of interest or of their expertise. In this way the induction of freshmen into the core fields of IEEE MBCET functional body is done. Their training would involve lectures and talks from experts in those fields and personal talks too.
Shrieeek
An innovative program which is basically a get together of IEEE MBCET members where they have fun while improving their technical and management skills. The main aim is to foster better relations between members while offering them a chance to learn new skills through talks and other activities.
Technical events of Cross Roads
The technical events of Crossroads’09, the annual technical and cultural festival of the college, were held in association with IEEE MBCET. The events this year includes Project exhibitions, Public Exhibitions from various companies and National Research centres, Robotics Zone which includes Robotics competitions and presentations, Circuit Debugging, Paper Presentation, Freedo Weirdo (material utilization construction), Meet the Corporates and many others.
Green Dream
A movement conceived by a group of MBCET students and propagated by Mr. Varun Raj and Mr. Arun Raj of IEEE MBCET, now has members from more than ten colleges across the state. It aims to adopt measures that will lead towards a greener world. Green Dream is open to all students and not just members of IEEE. The movement has been highly appreciated by Mr. Binoy Viswam, Minister for Forests and also by visual media like Asianet, ACV and Kairali.
WIE Care
Is an innovative program initiated by Nivedita Baliga, WIE Chairperson 2008, whereby underprivileged children, especially girls, are given awareness about science and engineering. It aims to equip these children with the skills they require to fulfill their dreams.
YOUNG SCIENTIST
A healthy body needs a healthy mind. The Young Scientist is a talent hunt contest with a difference that the event looks out for the most technical brain among the freshmen. It is a two day event. The first day is slated to conduct prelims and a technical group discussion. The prelims, basically a written test will comprise questions from basic science, logical questions based on the current world affairs and syllabi prescribed for the freshmen. The 2nd day will be a group discussion and finally a college maze in which the finalists would have to collect flags from different zones by solving quiz questions and riddle packs. The one returning first will become the 'young scientist'.
