The field of Electrical Engineering is highly dynamic and exciting as it provides excellent career opportunities in all sectors of society. The electrical engineering advancements reshape our modern society in all aspects including health, business, education and entertainment. Electrical Engineers design and implement a wide range of systems such as power generation, transmission and distribution, telecommunication networks, electrical machines and modern industrial control systems.
The Electrical Engineering curriculum is a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The course, as per the norms and guidelines of University of Kerala, has been designed with the aim of providing breadth and depth of knowledge and significant design experience across the key areas of Electrical Engineering that evolve with society needs.

The Dept. of Electrical & Electronics Engineering of MBCET which started its journey in 2002 fosters a dynamic academic environment, which is committed to a tradition of excellence in teaching, research and service. One of the main objectives of the EEE department at MBCET is to be recognized as the leading EEE department in the region. With sixteen dedicated academic staff having ample expertise in various fields of specializations, such as Power Electronics, Power Systems, Electrical Machines, Control Systems & Electronics and six well experienced technical support staff, the department. maintains a stable foundation and strong commitment to teaching and continues to progress in creative research & development and engage in constant expansion of enriching knowledge.
 Our students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they progress through the program. They also gain practical experience by working and experimenting in the highly equipped Workshops and Laboratories of the Department.

The Department actively engages in updating its technical skills and knowledge and foster Industry - Institution interaction through various technical activities of the Electrical Engineering Students association-‘ILLUMINA’. Talks by experts from various organizations, debates, technical quizzes, paper presentations, etc. conducted by the Association ensure constant motivation and encouragement to the students for their overall development of personality and technical exposure. Apart from this, as a part of social commitment, the students voluntarily take part in charity programmes.

The Electrical and Electronics department owns a department library consisting of several foreign and well known publishers’   books and study materials related to electrical engineering along with the textbooks and reference books prescribed by the University of Kerala as part of the Electrical Engineering curriculum.
The department continues to strive in excellence to produce highly qualified, well groomed and motivated graduates possessing fundamental knowledge in Electrical & Electronics Engineering who can provide leadership & sincere service to the nation and the world.

Mission statement

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering promotes and maintains excellence in teaching and learning to equip students with strong core competencies in Electrical Engineering and empower them with required skills for successful professional careers.  The department promotes and enhances faculty expertise in research and development towards providing technical solutions for social challenges and community advancement through outreach activities and networking with regional and international organizations.

Our vision is to be recognized as the leading EEE department in the region providing technical and non-technical competencies through engagement in professional activities, projects and graduate studies by using the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering excellence.
Objectives

The objectives of the electrical engineering program are to produce a graduate who will:

Over the past decades, the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has become indispensable to the advancement of modern society. In today's world, electric and electronic devices such as cell phones, computers and home appliances have become a basic necessity rather than a luxury. All throughout, electrical engineers have been in the forefront of the industrial, computer, and communication revolutions.

The Electrical and Electronics Engineering programs at MBCET provide the cutting edge Graduate education required for diverse careers in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and prepare graduates for post- graduate level studies. The broad range of expertise of our faculty covers multiple areas including network analysis, control systems, power systems, electrical machines, power electronics, electromagnetics, new and renewable sources of energy etc. The members of the faculty maintains this reputation by continually updating curricula to reflect current scientific and technological advances and requirements and by maintaining a vigorous research program designed to provide staff and graduate students with high level learning experiences relevant to the needs of our society

Our graduate program is designed to maintain a balance of breadth and depth in knowledge across multiple areas of competency. Students learn how to design electrical components, and develop additional proficiencies within specialty areas through a series of core and elective courses. Our cross-disciplinary approach to engineering education has enabled our students to consistently outrank their peers from other Institutions in the region.

Our future plans are to introduce Maters degree programs and to establish Research Centers in the field of Power Systems, Special Electrical Machines, and Power Electronics & Industrial Drives.
