The boom of civilization goes hand in hand with the ebb and flow in the infrastructure of a country. The vital role of civil engineering in achieving the goal is highly decisive. So it has become highly imperative and demanding to train and equip civil engineers for the purpose. Civil Engineering can be considered as the most versatile and single largest branch among all the engineering branches with a lot of diversity.
Civil Engineering branch started in Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology during the year 2004. Department of civil engineering is a vibrant place of learning, where students pursue their educational interests in order to lead the next generation to better prospects. The environment in which civil engineering professionals work has never been cozy - frequent advancements and introduction of new materials, development in technologies and processes, warrants the civil engineers to be alert and vigilant to cope up with the changing situations and rise to the occasion to deliver the goods. Advent of globalization, new markets, and changing employment patterns gives a global outlook to engineering profession.
The students develop high quality technical expertise with a sound foot in basic engineering principles, technical skills and innovative research capabilities. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and well equipped laboratories. Students are also provided with opportunities to earn valuable experience in the field through value added courses frequently conducted in the department. Civil Engineering Department shape, mould, organizes and structure the students to be good citizens, competent civil engineering professionals and to be the architects of a better world. To excel in Civil engineering means to have proper reasoning skill, good knowledge of geometry, good creativity and above all good imagination.
The department is rich with a group of faculties with knowledge and passion to deliver their experience to the future leaders. We also have a group of senior faculties with a vast know-how from both sectors of education/engineering industry. In addition to the teaching staff, team of experienced technicians are also in position to gain most from our well equipped laboratories and other facilities functioning like: The Strength of Materials Lab, Concrete Lab and Survey lab are functioning at the ground floor and Environmental engineering lab and Transportation lab are situated on the first floor. Our teaching block is large and refurbished with lecture rooms, staff rooms, meeting room and department library, where students pursue their educational interests in order to lead the next generation in transforming the disciplines of civil engineering.

To produce graduates well-versed in mathematical, scientific, and technical knowledge having the ability to analyze, evaluate, and design civil engineering systems with a fundamental, broad and flexible multidisciplinary curriculum and to equip them to foster the intelligent use of resources and to design apt and appropriate infrastructures for providing human services in a sustainable way by balancing the needs of the society.
Vision
The vision of the department is to give exposure to budding civil technocrats to various challenges in the profession through academic - industry interaction, advanced training and research and to make the department a centre of excellence for training undergraduate students. Moreover the Department visualizes the scope of consultancy services which will enhance academic industry and community interaction.
Objectives
Graduates will achieve a soaring level of technical expertise to be qualified professionals to excel in civil engineering practice or research, and in any other fields they choose to pursue. They will demonstrate the ability to formulate and produce engineering designs and implement them suiting to the requirement with consideration of functionality, aesthetics, maintenance, safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability. Civil Engineering Graduates will address the complexities of real life situations connected with civil engineering problems and be able to identify problems and formulate solutions that are technically sound, economically feasible, and environmentally sustainable.
Outcomes
Graduate will demonstrate knowledge in Mathematics, Science and Engineering and ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering Problems. They will display capacity to design, conduct experiments, analyse and interpret data, use modern engineering tools, software and equipments to analyse problems realising the impact of engineering solutions on the society and the contemporary issues. Graduate will develop confidence and will be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form and pursue self education and life long learning.
